USATF ILLINOIS "28 Days of Giving" Campaign

The USATF Illinois Association will host a "28 Days of Giving Campaign" from June 13 - July 11, 2024. Members, fans, advocates, friends and supporters will have the opportunity to make a charitable donation to help support the organization and mission which is to encourage, improve and promote the sport of track and field in the state of Illinois.

Funds will go toward maintaining the Association which includes general operating costs, equipment, facility rentals, officials' stipends, and much more! Most importantly, monies raised support Illinois track and field athletes who, through the Association, can have competitive opportunities & participate in the sport they love, for life. USATF Illinois members have gone on to become successful collegiate and elite athletes and dozens have competed in international, World, and even Olympic competition!

Donors of all ages and walks of life are encouraged to express their generosity during this  event. Every donation, regardless of size is crucial in helping us create and maintain competitive oportunities for athletes. Larger donations will receive special promotional benefits with the Association. ATHLETE/MEMBER TESTIMONIAL

Ruth Welding

2x World Masters Champion

I have been a USATF Illinois member since the mid 1990's. I was living in Indiana and was coming to meets in Illinois frequently so I changed my association membership because Indiana did not offer much for masters. My first Masters nationals was in 1990 in Indianapolis, 1991 was at North Central University in Naperville. Other than 1992, I have attended all the outdoor Masters nationals since 1990.

What I like most about the competition is that the meets are well organized, the officials are competent and it seems that the Illinois Association is always trying to improve how meets are run. (I have attended meets in other associations that have not offered all the events, inadequate facilities, poorly organized and not enough officials.)

I have competed in 2 World Masters TF Championships. Brisbane, Australia 2001 and Sacramento, Calif 2011. I won medals in both. In Sacramento, I won both the W55 hammer and weight throw.

The meets have been special not just for the competition but for the lifelong friends I have made because of them. But most of all I think of the late official, Lee Slick. He would encourage(nag) me to do better. He challenged me to do the hammer and the weight throw. With his guidance, I became a certified official. I am now a Master USATF Official.

I have been a throws official at 3 USATF Open Nationals and worked numerous NCAA D3 Nationals. Thank you, Lee Slick.

It is important for USATF Illinois to operate because it serves athletes of ALL ages. And through a well-organized group of officials, people can get involved with the sport as certified officials. There are also several USATF coaching courses offered locally to train those who wish to improve their knowledge of all aspects of the sport as a coach.
